A Shift in Perspective.

Life can present us with some pretty significant wake up calls. Events that jolt us, or force us to pause, knocking us right off that hamster wheel that seemed to be so important.

My Mom got very sick, very suddenly, ten days ago; and the sense of helplessness as she deteriorated daily was overwhelming. There’s a saying about asking a healthy person what they need to be happy, and the list is long, versus asking a sick person, and their list will hold just one item. I think that same saying applies to those who have someone close to them that is ill.

There are so many things that we take for granted – our health, the health of our loved ones, and most of all – Time. Time with others, time to dream, time to follow our dreams, time to do the right thing, time to express gratitude.

Time is finite, but we forget this. It runs out, or gets cut short, and we are left at a loss, wishing that we could rewind.

As my Mother begins to recover – I feel as if I have been given a second chance. Not necessarily to do things better or even differently, but just simply, the gift of more time. And a deep appreciation for this.
